Roadhouse USA:
Vintage Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier Rack Mount Racktifier KSR Modded Rev G Amp.
If you are reading this, you know what it is:
-Rev G Mesa Dual Rectifier
-Racktifier (rack mountable version)
-KSR modded by Kyle Rhodes of KSR Amplification.
Needless to say, this amp is a STUD!
Its hard enough to find a Rev G rack mount Dual Rec. But you aren’t going to find one that sounds like this.
Alongside the Gain and Voicing mods, the added “Depth” knob for the Vintage mode, the Effects loop was also converted to Series vs Parallel. (This is a huge improvement, and both functionally and sonically performs MUCH better.)
There are examples of what KSR modified rectifiers sound like on YouTube, but really nothing that does justice to how awesome this amp sound in person. It goes from extremely impressive cleans that far exceed any other Mesa Rectifier variation, all the way through blues, classic rock, early metal, thrash, and into Progressive metal, Death metal, etc.
The Mods Kyle performs are mind blowing. The inherent “Rectifier” sound comes from their crossover distortion that is baked in and creates that huge hollow distortion tone we all recognize. This sound can also at times be why rectifiers sound a bit too flubby or dark, and require specific EQ adjustments and bright boosting out front to sound aggressive and clear.
Kyle has developed a system of modifications to the circuit that retain the massive iconic rectifier sound we love, while bringing in MORE of everything, while also enhancing clarity. That means More Gain, more Low end, More Full Mids (or dynamic mid scooping), more rounded high end (less “fizz”), more touch sensitivity, more punch, and better over all clarity. It’s the old saying of “Taking the blanket off the speakers”.
Kyle truly does exceptional work, and makes every control on the amp extremely usable and more impactful. The added “Depth” control on the back can add a massive amount of punchy low end when in the Vintage mode which sounds absolutely amazing. This amp on the orange channel sounds better than any sound I have ever gotten from any Rectifier.
The KSR mods are not cheap modifications. These are the best Rectifier mods that I have ever heard, and I have played modded amps by Voodoo Amps, Ground Zero, Hermansson, as well as many others. These mods are pricey in and of themselves, and the wait for these mods is a year or more if Kyle even had the opening to take a mod at all these days.
The amp recently gone over by an amp tech and given a clean bill of health with tubes testing strong and everything running flawlessly. There are a few cosmetic marks on the chassis as you might expect from a 30-year old rack mount amp, but nothing major.
This is a killer Rev G Dual Racktifier. You won’t find a better one.
