1996 Charvel Custom Shop USA San Dimas III-W Guitar Transparent Red Flame Top W/OHSC.
The San Dimas III-W was only made for one year in 1996.
I have owned a number of these 90’s Charvel USA made San Dimas models over the years. I gigged for a number of years with an all koa model, and every one of these I have ever had my hands on have been exceptional guitars. Well crafted, great playing, great sounding.
This one has a superb flamed maple top. It being Transparent Red, its a bit hard to photograph, as are all red guitars for us non-professionals. The flame top is very nice in person and stands out much more.
The guitar is in excellent condition for its age, with a few small marks here and there that are pictured.
The neck is super fun to play, check out the gorgeous birdseye!
The Wilkenson trem they put on these is one of my favorites ever. It stays in tune without the need for the locking nut like a Floyd.
It is all original with the exception of the bridge humbucker which is currently a Seymour Duncan as you can see. Easy enough to replace it if you want to get it back to original, but it sounds killer as it sits. The Don lace single coils in the middle and neck positions are original and sound great.
It even comes with the original spec sheet from Charvel which I don’t believe I have ever seen before with one of these.

These San Dimas models from the mid-90’s are getting harder and harder to find, especially in this type of condition.

The Charvel San Dimas III w is a variation of the Charvel San Dimas III. Both guitars are part of the Charvel San Dimas Series made in the USA. The Charvel San Dimas III w featues a Mahogany body with a flamed maple drop top, a birdseye maple neck and a rosewood fingerboard. The black hardware, as opposed to the Charvel San Dimas III, consists of a Wilkinson VS100 tremolo (hence the W in the model name) and Sperzel locking tuners. The HSS pickup configuration consists of a Dimarzio Chopper single coil, a Dimarzio Fast Track 1 single coil and a Dimarzio Tone Zone humbucker. This guitar was only manufactured for one year in 1996.
