1988 Charvel Model 4 Guitar in Black Cherry W/Charvel Safecase
I LOVE these old 80’s Charvels. My first ‘real’ guitar was a white Charvel Model 4; I wish I had that one back!
The Model 4 was at the top of the bolt-neck line for Japanese-made Charvels, with the same hardware & active electronics as the 6. Its thin quarter-sawn rock maple neck has a satin finish & a wide, flat fingerboard.
The body is solid basswood finished in Black Cherry. The single coils are Jackson J200s & the humbucker is a J50BC with “accentuated high frequency.”
8.2 lbs
This one has just had a pro set up with fresh strings & low action so it plays & sounds great.
It is in very good overall vintage condition with a few minor various nicks, chips, along with surface scratches. You can clearly see the minor dings in the pics. There is nothing too awful or down to the wood, just natural play wear for a near 40 year old guitar.
The neck on these guitars is a quarter-sawn maple neck with cream side-dots. It has the rosewood fingerboard with mother of pearl “shark tooth” inlays. The frets show a very small amount of wear, but have plenty of life in them.
The Jackson die cast tuners and locking nut with 1 5/8″ nut width; 25 1/2″ scale length.
The neck is straight & truss rod works perfectly.
The body is contoured, solid basswood body finished in Black Cherry. The J ackson tremolo bridge Licensed Under Floyd Rose Patents with adjustable, locking saddles & original tremolo arm included.
The electronics work great with the Jackson J200 single coils (neck & middle) & J50BC humbucker (bridge) with on/off switches for each pickup. The controls are master volume, master tone and preamp midrange boost/cut with black knurled knobs.
The original Charvel Safecase is included as pictured and somewhat amazingly, has all the latches intact.
Overall, this is a killer 80’s vintage Charvel Model 4.
